This song was written during the Enbridge protests on SFU mountain. Concurrently, Kar's home Nation (Tsilhqot'in) was/is consistently battling against natural resource extraction near Teztan Biny (Fish Lake).

Kar's mother is from the Tsilhqot'in nation, her father is from the Syilx nation. She also has familial ties to the Carrier Nation and Kootenay Nation.
